We use the present when we talk about things happening now, or things that happen regularly. In Gudjal, we use the -ya ending to talk about the present. It is similar to the -s or -ing verb endings in English.
| Gabari | dhanda-ya. |
| rain | fall-PRES |
| Rain is falling. | |
| Gari | yinda-ya | guwa. |
| sun | set-PRES | west |
| The sun sets in the west. | ||
The -ing and -s endings mean slightly different things in English. Notice the difference between "he runs" and "he is running". In Gudjal, the -ya ending can be used for both meanings.
